Alberobello

Alberobello is part of the "heel" in Italy. It took about one and half hour from Bari Central station to Alberobello.

Alberobello is called the city of trulli, the traditional houses built from limestone. The shapes were very
unique and cute. They were constructed by piling the stones.

The sky was very clear blue, and the sunshine was strong and the air was dry. The city was very impressive.

The trulli have an interesting history. The count ordered the people to build trulli by piling the limestone to avoid paying taxes for the houses; people had to destroy their houses as quickly as possible whenever they were ordered to. The signs on the roof were heraldic emblems that gave the meaning of the wishes of the resident.

The stone at the top told who the builder of the house was.

We met a woman who has been embroidering for a long time. She has a paper lantern with Japanese "Shirakawago". I learned the city of Shirakawago in Japan is a sister city of Alberobello. Once I thought about it, I saw that the houses in Shirakawago look like trulli.

I bought this from her.
