Chocolate Train

2012/8/4

We took the Chocolate Train. It was €99, but it was €69 thanks to our Swiss Pass. Swiss Passes are sold either for 4, 8, 15, 22 days or one month. It was available to use trains and buses during a trip in Switzerland. We bought a 8 day pass.

Chocolate Train; the deluxe carriages run between Montreux and Gruyere region. Gruyere is famous for producing cheese. We were drawn to the chocolate train because to us chocolate and cheese seemed symbolic of Switzerland.
The tour visited a Gruyere cheese factory, Gruyere village, and a Chocolate factory: Cailler. It was one day trip. We departured from Montreux at about 9:00 a.m. and returned to there at about 6:00 p.m.

Gruyere village

The Gruyere village was charming and pretty.

We enjoyed Gruyere cheese at a restaurant in the village, a medical town.

    Gruyere cheese salad (CHF 24)

Hot cheese on toast (CHF 24)
the bread may be soaked in white wine

A very cute bike!
It was truly a cheese town.

chocolates!

We enjoyed the train; it was nice experience. However, honestly, I don't recommend it in the summer. The train didn't have air conditioning, and we couldn't open the windows very far. It was too hot in the train.
